Graeser Villa, a six bedroom duplex residence, has recently received its Residential LEED Certification.
Graeser Villa is part of the residence complex of Rainbow Village in St. Louis County. Rainbow Village is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing lifetime housing for the developmentally disabled.
The project was designed by Henty & Associates, P.C., Architects, and constructed by Ker-Mac Construction, Inc.
The Graeser Villa Project was started in mid-2005 and overseen by Rainbow Village board member Alan Broddon. At the time, sustainable design (green design) was relatively new in general, and unavailable for residential projects at all.
After the project design was substantially complete, Mr. Broddon determined that it would offer many advantages to Rainbow Village to attempt to adapt the Graeser Villa design to meet sustainable design methods and materials. With relatively minor alterations, and without significant cost increase to the project budget, the sustainability goals were largely met.
Six women have taken up residence and are now enjoying the benefits of the sustainable design.
